Potato Update: I rigged together a potato tower today because I though my rows were a bit narrow for hilling. I’ve heard you can use straw, or decomposed leaves as mulch for potatoes. I used soil amended with bone meal and straw (to keep the soil from falling through the chicken wire). The idea is when it’s time to harvest I will pull up the bamboo poles and chicken wire and potatoes will come tumbling out. The potatoes I planted in burlap bags in the front yard are about half the size of the ones above so I’ll wait a few weeks before adding more soil. I think I’m 1-2 months away from delicious potato salad!
